Post subject: MSN Messenger Hijackings and Security  PostPosted: Nov 13, 2008 - 04:10 PM

I've been noticing a rash of MSN account hijackings lately.

Do NOT click on links unless you can confirm who is sending them to you. If a message pops up out of the blue and the user signs off immediately after sending, it might be a case of someone being hacked.

I got one from RP Sgt Mr. Death recently that I knew wasn't from him. It's happened to a few of my other friends.

Please make sure to regularly change your passwords!!

This has been your Public Service Announcement for today. Smile

I also received the same from Corsair and Fox on numerous occasions which I knew was bogus, and didn't open.

If the person's MSN account accepts offline messages, I've found that sometimes you can leave them a message back a few moments after the hijacker signs off to let them know what's happened. If they are able to sign back in at a later time, then they'll get it. That's what happened to another friend of mine. I sent her a message after one of the phishing ones came through, and she IM'd me back later letting me know she was thankful for the message and changing her password!

Ive had people telling me that they keep getting offered pics from my msn before they go onto facebook. I dont use facebook and I am not sending these messages. Aparently its some sort of exe file. Could this be something to do with what your talking about?

I have posted on my Mesenger that they've just to be ignored.

thanks Haylo.....yes I have.

Ive changed and doubled the length of my password so hopefully that will be an end to it. I also noticed while checking through everything that the postcode entered in my profile was one that ive never lived at. I know the area as I did live in that place but not under that postcode.

Advise that people check their info incase similar points have been changed.
