Post subject: Lag Problem  PostPosted: May 25, 2006 - 04:04 AM

Colonel
When I host A DFX server and play at the same time I get a lot of lag, even if I host DFX and play TFD I get lag, can the reason be my video card? I have an Nvidia card with 128 meg of memory, do I need a faster card?

I also have a Pentium 4, 2.0 GB processor with arround 740 meg of Ram and use a cable modem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General
I would always run any game with the performance video setting ..... the picture detail quality is still good with these settings and it does help to eliminate video lag.

A 128 Mg video card on performance settings is more than adequate.

If you are looking at system lag, then that is basically the processor not being able to handle the data ......... You may be running too many programs in the background.

TFD is very processor dependant ............... and I would reccomend that if you are hosting/player TFD ...... You dont do anything else on the computer ................ unless you have a duel processor.

If you must host and play another game ...... then run the hosting game as a dedicated server ....... A dedicated server does not use any video functions ......... If you are running it as Serve and Play ... even if you arent playing, the video is initialised and is using up valuable system resources.

And dont forget ..... that defraging your hard drive does improve system performance.

Colonel
Cally,

How would I go about changing these settings?

Sergeant
I use TS overlay to see my frame rate.
It's always visible during the game.
On my system under DFX, DJ 0r V9 it's mostly some 58 frames a second.
Some heavy maps have in the beginning some 20 fps.
But i thing that the course of that is the connection. not the graphics card.
Especially snow and many fires cause then lag.
My system is PIV 3000, ATI 9800 PRO and 1 Gb memory.
